Prior when there were
15 green spruce trees that were 60 feet tall there was no
"up-keep" from the county
and we spent thousands of dollars cleaning up the situation
in 2001 until the very
trees we warned the Spokane County Park officials about
on May 21, 2008 broke
and crashed in May of 2010 during a wind storm.
Nine [9] Years of funding
this tree line's clean up and maintenance.
Don Secor was formally
contacted in May of 2008 about the tree line
and it's hazards.
He responded three months later in August of 2008.
He specifically stated
that "his professionals in the field and foresty industry
and included based on
"expert"
advice that these trees pose no significant concern."
May 3rd, 2010 one of the
very trees that created our initial concern broke.
[16 months later from
our formal alert to the situation]
Spokane County then removed
the ALL of the trees, leaving a "no man's land" area
that still has no regular
maintenance and still polutes the property north.
Since 2011 a noxious weed
problem has developed and now is worse.
These noxious weeds were
never growing on our property and now they
have spread to our lawn
and dirt areas. We have had to use extended methods
to kill off these noxious
weeds that are only found on our South sections next to the
contaminated part of
the park. However it is chronic due to the lack
of maintenance on the
park's side of the fence.
We always make certain
that this "no mans" land that is a fire hazard
is cropped short for
the 4th of July week.
Basically the current
maintenence at this end of the park consists of briefly driving the
mower through in a random
fashion, sometimes the driver uses a weedwacker
around the new trees
planted in this section.
As of today: July 20th,
2015 the Canadian Thistle and other noxious weeds
are not even cropped
short by the Park Crew, just left to grow taller to seed and spread.
To
Date : July 27th, 2015 the Spokane County Park Maintenance Crew
will not / does not
lower the weeds / noxious
weeds on their Monday schedule when at this park with the crew.
I have asked the drivers
of the mowers and weed wackers to take care of it,
or have Don Secor or
their foreman contact me.
